Welcome to The Special Relativity home page. Here I present an all-optical interpretation of the Lorentz transformations that will forever change our understanding of the special theory of relativity, in particular concerning the concept of time and the relationship between spacetime and the real world. Over the last four years, various versions of the paper have been rejected by the Editors of a dozen leading physics and science journals, on the grounds that the all-optical interpretation of the Lorentz transformations does not comply with the current and long established interpretation. And no wonder it does not; the paper demonstrates that the current interpretation is wrong, based on misleading arguments from the very start. (Yet the Lorentz transformations are of course quite correct, this is only about their interpretation). Therefore I have chosen to make the paper publicly available by placing it on this Internet page, for anybody to read and unrestrained by current orthodoxy.
You are invited to read the paper and have your own opinions about my heretical thoughts. The treatment is simple and self-explanatory and speaks for itself. You will be surprised that this straightforward understanding, following directly from the Lorentz transformations and assisted by an elementary optical observation, has eluded us for a hundred years. Read the paper with an open mind, and feel free to communicate any criticism and comments back to me, particularly if you find errors that would falsify my analysis and conclusions. And by all means do feel even more free to inform your colleagues if you should find that the paper deserves to be more widely read. I can be reached on e-mail at sok@kanstad.com. Thank you for your kind attention and efforts. Volda, Norway / Oakbank MB, Canada, April 2010 |
